Cubs 6, Diamondbacks 5

First baseman Tyler Colvin snapped out of his cold start with three RBIs - including a two-run homer - to lead the host Chicago Cubs past the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon.

Colvin, who entered the game 1 for 8 with no RBIs, went deep in the third and drew a bases-loaded walk to cap a two-run seventh which broke a 4-4 tie.

The Diamondbacks, trailing 4-1 entering the seventh, drew three walks to start the inning, and Willie Bloomquist’s two-run single off Marcos Mateo tied the game.

But the Cubs responded in their half. Marlon Byrd doubled home Jeff Baker, who had singled and advanced to third on Starlin Castro’s single. After Aramis Ramirez was walked intentionally, Colvin walked to make it 6-4.

Cubs starter Andrew Cashner was pulled in the sixth because of tightness in his right shoulder. James Russell picked up the win in relief, and Sean Marshall recorded his first save despite allowing a run on two hits in the ninth. With a runner on second, Marshall fanned Bloomquist to end it.

Ryan Roberts hit a solo homer for Arizona (1-3).

The Cubs (3-2) go for the sweep Wednesday behind Ryan Dempster.
