Diamondbacks 4, Cubs 3

The Arizona Diamondbacks only recorded five hits but they made them count in a 4-3 victory over the visiting Chicago Cubs on Sunday.

Ryan Roberts hit a solo homer and Dan Hudson pitched seven solid innings for the Diamondbacks, who salvaged a split of the four-game set.

The score was tied, 1-1 in the fourth when Arizona took advantage of Cubs rookie starter Casey Coleman (1-2). After a walk and a single to start the inning, the Diamondbacks managed to push three runs across on a balk, fielder’s choice and wild pitch.

Chicago fought back with a pair of runs in the seventh, but Hudson got Tyler Colvin and Kosuke Fukudome to ground out to the pitcher with the tying run in scoring position. Hudson (1-4) ended up getting charged with three runs on eight hits while striking out six.

David Hernandez worked the eighth and J.J. Putz closed it for his sixth save.

Alfonso Soriano, who totaled four home runs in the first three games of the series, was held to a double in four at-bats Sunday.
