Cubs 4, Dodgers 1

Catcher Geovany Soto lined a tiebreaking two-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to give the visiting Chicago Cubs a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.

The Dodgers' Andre Ethier singled in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 29 games, tying him for the second-longest hitting streak in franchise history.

Los Angeles closer Jonathan Broxton (1-2) walked two hitters in the ninth before being pulled for reliever Blake Hawksworth, who gave up the double to Soto before Chicago added an insurance run on former Dodger Blake DeWitt's single.

Kerry Wood (1-1) earned the win and Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save.

The teams were scoreless until the sixth, when Matt Kemp delivered a two-out RBI single. Chicago's Carlos Pena hit his first home run of the season to make it 1-1 in the seventh.

The game featured solid starting pitching performances by Chicago starter Ryan Dempster and Los Angeles starter Chad Billingsley. Dempster lasted seven innings and allowed one run on six hits, and Billingsley yielded four hits and one run in seven innings.
