Nationals 3, Cubs 2
Ross Detwiler allowed two runs in his first start of the season and Wilson Ramos drove in a run as the Washington Nationals edged the visiting Chicago Cubs, 3-2, on Tuesday.
Laynce Nix added an RBI and Ryan Zimmerman had two hits for the Nationals, who pulled back over .500 at 44-43.
Detwiler (1-0), who was recalled from the minors prior to the game, allowed four hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out one. Manager Davey Johnson said the 25-year old Detwiler could see time as a starter, a long reliever or a left-handed specialist with the team.
The Cubs gave a slightly more seasoned pitched his season debut, sending veteran Ramon Ortiz (0-1) to the mound. The 38-year old was let down by his defense in the first inning, as a throwing error by Jeff Baker on a possible double play grounder from Nix allowed two runs to score.
Ramos added an RBI infield single three batters later to complete the three-run inning.
Baker left the game in the third with back spasms and is listed as day-to-day.
Drew Storen worked the ninth for his 21st save.
