Brewers 6, Cubs 4
Yovani Gallardo struck out 10 over seven strong innings and the National League Central leading Milwaukee Brewers held off the visiting Chicago Cubs 6-4 on Saturday.
Gallardo (15-8) allowed one unearned run, though it came as the result of his own throwing error in the second. He scattered six hits and a pair of walks to improve to 9-1 at home this season.
The Brewers extended their division lead to 10 1/2 games over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Milwaukee took a 3-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by Casey McGehee and an RBI double by Ryan Braun.
Corey Hart had an RBI triple in the second against Ryan Dempster (10-10) and added a solo homer in the seventh to give Milwaukee a 6-1 lead before Alfonso Soriano's three-double in the eighth made it 6-4.
Prince Fielder added a solo homer in the fifth - his 29th of the season - for the Brewers.
Chicago's Aramis Ramirez extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a single in the third.
Dempster allowed five runs and seven hits in four innings.
