Padres 7, Astros 2

Jason Bartlett keyed a three-run first inning as San Diego jumped out to an early lead and pulled away for its third straight win, a 7-2 victory over visiting Houston on Sunday evening.

The Padres jumped in front for good in their first at-bat against Jordan Lyles (0-1). Bartlett drove in a run with a triple and then scored on a base hit by Brad Hawpe. Aaron Cunningham followed with an RBI fielder's choice.

Mat Latos (4-6) got the win, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings of work. Chase Headley extended his hitting streak to 15 games with an RBI double in the third inning that made it 4-1, and Alberto Gonzalez knocked in two runs with a base hit in the seventh.

Lyles lasted just four innings in his second big-league start for the Astros, surrendering four runs on five hits. Carlos Lee got Houston on the board with an RBI single in the third inning, while Hunter Pence added a run-scoring double in the fifth to stretch his hit streak to 17 games.
