Red-hot Carlos Gonzalez drove in three runs, including a two-run double in Colorado’s six-run first inning, as the Rockies defeated the visiting Houston Astros 9-5 on Monday.
Gonzalez, who hit his 22nd homer of the season in the second, has a seven-game RBI streak and 14 during that span. He also has six homers and 19 RBIs during a 10-game hitting streak as the Rockies won for the fourth time in their last five games.
Jhoulys Chacin (10-10) allowed a run and scattered 11 hits over seven innings to win for the second time in his last 12 starts. He also capped the first with a two-run double.
Brett Myers (3-13) allowed seven runs and nine hits in five innings. He has lost seven straight decisions and is winless since June 17, a span of 12 starts. Myers was 7-0 against Colorado.
Brian Bogusevic went 3-for-4, including a homer in the fourth, and Matt Downs hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the ninth for Houston (42-86), which has the worst record in the majors.
The Rockies’ Todd Helton drove in his 1,305th run, tying him with Roberto Clemente and Sam Thompson for 101st all-time.
