Rockies 8, Astros 6
Jonathan Herrera and Seth Smith hit two-run homers as the Colorado Rockies won their fourth straight game, 8-6 over the visiting Houston Astros on Tuesday.
Carlos Gonzalez added an RBI single and Troy Tulowitzki drove in a run for the Rockies, who remained 8½ games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West with 32 games remaining.
The Rockies and Diamondbacks meet six more times, including three next week in Arizona.
Gonzalez has an 11-game hitting streak and 20 RBIs during that span. He also has driven in a run in eight straight games.
The Rockies took leads in the fifth and sixth only to have the Astros battle back in the following half innings to tie the score. It was Herrera who put Colorado on top for good when he blasted a 2-1 offering from Fernando Rodriguez (2-2) over the right field wall in the seventh.
Alex White made his first start for the Rockies since being acquired in the Ubaldo Jimenez deal and yielded five runs and seven hits in six innings.
Matt Belisle (8-4) worked two innings to earn the win and Rex Brothers picked up his first major league save.
Smith’s homer in the fifth was his 15th of the season and fourth in his last eight starts.
