Astros 4, Giants 3 (11)

Matt Downs' RBI single in the top of the 11th inning lifted the Houston Astros to a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

The Giants fell four games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West.

Jose Altuve reached on a one-out double against Ramon Ramirez (2-3), and scored when Downs knocked the next pitch into center field.

Mark Melancon (7-4) got the win despite blowing a save opportunity in the 10th and David Carpenter worked the 11th for his first career save.

Jason Michaels gave the Astros a 3-2 lead with an RBI double in the 10th against Jeremy Affeldt before the Giants drew even against Melancon in the bottom half when Andres Torres scored on a base hit by Mark DeRosa.

Houston's Bud Norris struck out 10 and did not allow a runner past second base until Aubrey Huff's one-out single in the seventh tied it 1-1. Norris allowed three hits in seven innings.

San Francisco's Matt Cain allowed two runs, five hits and walked six in eight innings.

Houston first baseman Carlos Lee left the game in the ninth after appearing to injure his right ankle while sliding into second base.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy was ejected in the 10th for arguing after DeRosa was thrown out at second base.
