Brewers 4, Padres 3
Zack Greinke earned his first National League victory and Rickie Weeks went 2-for-4 with a home run as the Milwaukee Brewers held on for a 4-3 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday night.
Greinke (1-1), the 2009 Cy Young Award winner who was acquired from Kansas City in the off-season, pitched six innings, struck out nine and allowed five hits. He began the season on the disabled list with a cracked rib.
The Brewers grabbed an early lead when Carlos Gomez scored on a wild pitch by Mat Latos (0-5) in the first, and Weeks made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the second.
After Chase Headley doubled home a run to cut the deficit in half, Weeks led off the fifth with a homer to right center.
Jason Bartlett knocked in runs for San Diego in the sixth and eighth innings, but Jonathan Lucroy's RBI double in the sixth proved to be the difference. John Axford worked the ninth for his sixth save.
Latos allowed four runs, seven hits and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.
