Giants 2, Brewers 1
Madison Bumgarner outdueled Yovani Gallardo as the San Francisco Giants edged the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
The Brewers' loss, coupled with Pittsburgh's 10-inning win over St. Louis, created a three-way tie atop the National League Central.
Bumgarner (6-9) allowed a first-inning homer to Ryan Braun but was unscathed the rest of the way, scattering eight hits over 7 2/3 innings while striking out eight. That was enough to make a loser of Gallardo (11-7), who allowed two runs on six hits in his seven frames.
Jeff Keppinger tied the game at 1 with an RBI single in the third that plated Bumgarner, and the Giants pulled ahead in the fourth when Mike Fontenot's sacrifice fly to center allowed Nate Schierholtz, who had taken third on a wild pitch, to score.
Brian Wilson set the Brewers down in order in the ninth for his 31st save.
