Cardinals 4, Rockies 3
Jon Jay's first-inning homer gave St. Louis an early lead and starter Kyle Lohse made it stand up as the Cardinals defeated the host Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Sunday.
Jay's two-run homer to right field off Jhoulys Chacin (5-4) was his fourth of the season. The veteran outfielder is hitting .438 (28-for-64) over his last 18 games to raise his average nearly 120 points to .346.
The Cardinals' three-run first was all Lohse (7-2) needed. The righthander limited Colorado to two runs on six hits over six innings for his third straight victory. Lohse has already surpassed his win total from each of the last two seasons.
Fernando Salas surrendered a ninth-inning run but induced Carlos Gonzalez to ground out with two runners on to end the game, securing his ninth save.
Colby Rasmus added two hits, including a homer, as the Cardinals won two of three in the weekend series.
Chacin allowed four runs on six hits over six innings. The two homers he surrendered brought him to nine for the season, just one fewer than he allowed in 2010.
Ty Wigginton led the Rockies with three hits and an RBI.
