Reds 3, Cardinals 1
Ryan Hanigan snapped a tie with an RBI single in the seventh inning and Homer Bailey tossed seven-plus strong frames as the Cincinnati Reds recorded a 3-1 home victory over the rival St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
Rookie Zack Cozart belted a solo homer also scored on a wild pitch for Cincinnati, which took two of three from its National League Central rival.
With the score tied at 1-1, Hanigan plated Miguel Cairo with an RBI single to center field.
Bailey (4-4) yielded just a solo homer to Lance Berkman over 7 1/3 innings to win for the first time since returning from the disabled list. He also permitted three hits total and struck out four.
Bill Bray and Nick Masset bridged the gap to Francisco Cordero, who bounced back from blowing three straight save opportunities by retiring the side in order in the ninth for his 18th save of the season.
Signed to a four-year, $27-million deal on Wednesday, Jaime Garcia (9-4) permitted two runs on six hits to snap his three-game winning streak.
