Cardinals 6, Rockies 1
David Freese had three RBIs, including a two-run single that highlighted a five-run sixth inning, as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the visiting Colorado Rockies 6-1 on Friday night.
Albert Pujols (two hits) had an RBI single and Matt Holliday followed with an RBI double to start the scoring in the sixth. After Lance Berkman was intentionally walked to load the bases, Freese lined his second single to left field off Aaron Cook (2-7) for a 5-1 lead.
Kyle Lohse (10-7) allowed four hits and one run over 6 1/3 innings and capped the big inning with a two-out, RBI single.
The Cardinals, who have won six of their last eight, remained four games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central.
Carlos Gonzalez led off the fourth with his 17th homer to tie the game 1-1 for the Rockies, who have lost three straight. Colorado loaded the bases after the home run, but Lohse retired Cook on a fly ball to right field to end the threat.
Colorado first baseman Todd Helton belted his 550th career double. He is 24th on the all-time list.
