Pirates 6, Cardinals 2
The Pittsburgh Pirates ended a seven-game home losing streak on Monday, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 behind Ryan Doumit's three-run homer.
Doumit's blast off Jake Westbrook (9-7) snapped a 1-1 fourth-inning tie and lifted Pittsburgh to just its sixth win in 25 games.
The Cardinals fell six games behind division-leading Milwaukee in the NL Central.
James McDonald (8-6) went 5 2/3 innings for his first win in four starts, and leadoff man Xavier Paul hit a solo homer.
Matt Holliday doubled twice for the Cardinals, who fell to 3-4 against the Pirates this season.
It was the Pirates' first game at PNC Park since they went 0-7 against the Cubs and San Diego from Aug. 1-7 while posting an 8.60 ERA, the worst homestand in the franchise's 125-year history.
Doumit's homer was his fifth hit in seven career at-bats against Westbrook.
