Dodgers 2, Cardinals 1

Aaron Miles tripled home the tying run and scored the go-ahead run in the ninth inning to rally the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the host St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night.

St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter left with a 1-0 lead after hitting Juan Rivera to open the ninth and it wound up costing him the win when Miles tied the game with a one-out RBI triple against closer Fernando Salas (5-5).

Miles came home when Rod Barajas grounded into a fielder's choice against Jason Motte.

Javy Guerra shut the Cardinals down in the ninth inning to save the win for Matt Guerrier (3-3), who struck out two in a perfect eighth.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead when Lance Berkman led off the second inning with his 29th home run of the year, taking a 3-2 pitch from Nate Eovaldi over the wall in right-center field. It was Berkman’s first homer in the month of August.

Carpenter allowed five hits and struck out seven. Eovaldi went five innings, yielding five hits and a walk while striking out two.

St. Louis left fielder Matt Holliday left the game in the top of the eighth inning after an insect appeared to get stuck in his right ear.
