Dodgers 9, Cardinals 4
Juan Rivera and A.J. Ellis homered as the Dodgers capped a three-game sweep at St. Louis with a 9-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The Dodgers took control of the game with six runs in the third inning against Jaime Garcia (10-7). Matt Kemp opened the rally with a two-run single that gave Los Angeles a 2-1 lead, scoring on an RBI double by Rivera. Ellis, who also singled home a run during the outburst, added hit his first major league home run in the fifth inning, a solo shot to left field.
Rivera stretched the lead to 7-1 when he hit a two-run homer to left in the sixth inning against Kyle McClellan. The Cardinals got a two-run shot from Gerald Laird in the seventh.
Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda (10-14) pitched seven strong innings for the win, allowing three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out four. Garcia surrendered seven runs on nine hits in his five innings of work, striking out three and walking two.
