Pirates 8, Diamondbacks 5
Lyle Overbay keyed a five-run eighth inning with a three-run double as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied for an 8-5 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh got a run-scoring double from Jose Tabata and an RBI single by Josh Harrison before Overbay’s drive to right-center off David Hernandez (2-2) gave Pittsburgh an 8-5 lead.
Chris Resop (2-1) got the final out of the eighth to record the win and Joel Hanrahan notched his 15th save as Pittsburgh improved to 3-1 on its 10-game homestand.
Arizona dropped its second straight after winning 18 of 22.
The Diamondbacks got another great start from Daniel Hudson, but Hernandez, who retired just one of six batters he faced, cost Hudson what would have been his sixth win in his last eight starts.
Hudson allowed three runs – one earned – and three hits in seven innings and outdueled Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia, who was gunning for his major league-leading ninth win.
Red-hot Kelly Johnson hit a solo homer in the first and added a two-run single in the fifth that gave Arizona a 4-3 lead. The left-handed hitter has eight homers and 18 RBIs in his last 17 games.
