Padres 7, Pirates 3
Will Venable had three hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases and Mat Latos pitched seven strong innings as the visiting San Diego Padres defeated the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates have lost 10 straight and 12 of 13, and finished 0-7 on their home stand.
Logan Forsythe had an RBI ground out in the second and singled home two runs with two outs in the sixth for the Padres, who have won four straight. San Diego scored three in the sixth for a 4-0 lead after having two outs and none on base.
Latos (6-11) gave up four hits and two runs for his first win since June 27. Latos allowed a pair of singles to lead off the eighth before Brandon Wood belted a three-run homer off reliever Chad Qualls.
Orlando Hudson scored twice for the Padres, giving him seven runs in the three-game sweep, and Kyle Blanks added two doubles.
Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia (12-10) allowed four runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings. Correia walked four, two in the sixth that helped the Padres’ rally.
San Diego has won nine straight at PNC Park.
