Pirates 4, Reds 3
Ryan Ludwick's ninth-inning single lifted the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.
With pinch-runner Chase d'Arnaud on second base, Ludwick lined an offering from Nick Masset off the base of the center-field wall as Pittsburgh improved to 9-4 against the Reds this season.
Closer Joel Hanrahan (1-4) earned the win after blowing the save in the ninth inning.
Bill Bray (5-3) absorbed the loss after surrendering a Jason Jaramillo double with one out in the 10th.
Garrett Jones ended a monthlong power drought with a two-run homer to give the Pirates an early lead. Jones drilled a 1-0 pitch from Edinson Volquez into the center-field picnic area at PNC Park for his first home run since Aug. 21, also against the Reds.
The second-inning blast traveled an estimated 458 feet.
The Pirates extended the lead to 3-0 but couldn't hold on, as Hanrahan forced in the tying run in the ninth after hitting Todd Frazier with the bases loaded.
