Reds 2, Nationals 1
Johnny Cueto allowed one run in eight innings and Joey Votto hit a solo home run as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the host Washington Nationals 2-1 on Wednesday.
Cueto (9-5) allowed six hits and struck out five, and improved his career record to 4-2 against the Nationals. He had thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings before Washington struck for a run on Ryan Zimmerman's solo homer to lead off the ninth.
Closer Francisco Cordero entered the game and loaded the bases before inducing Wilson Ramos to hit into a game-ending double play for his 24th save.
Votto’s 20th home run came with two outs in the first off Washington's Ross Detwiler (1-3), who lost his third straight start. Detwiler struck out seven in six innings, his longest stint of the season since being moved from the bullpen.
