Nationals 3, Reds 1

Jesus Flores homered for the first time this season and Jordan Zimmermann pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings as the host Washington Nationals posted a 3-1 home victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday night.

Flores’ fifth-inning solo shot was the 34th homer allowed by Bronson Arroyo (7-10) this season, easily the most in the majors. Jonny Gomes added a two-run single in the sixth to make it 3-0.

Zimmermann (8-10) scattered six hits in one of his final starts this season. After undergoing Tommy John surgery two years ago, he is nine innings shy of a 160-inning limit set by Washington.

Drew Storen worked around two singles in the ninth for his 33rd save in 37 chances this season.

Rain delayed the first pitch by 38 minutes.
