Diamondbacks 2, Nationals 0

Sean Burroughs snapped a scoreless tie with a long two-run homer in the seventh as visiting Arizona ended a six-game skid with a 2-0 win in Washington.

It was Burroughs’ first homer this season as the Diamondbacks increased their lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West to two games.

Ian Kennedy (16-4) took over the NL lead in wins, striking out eight over seven scoreless innings. J.J. Putz pitched the ninth for his 31st save in 35 chances.

Jordan Zimmermann (8-11), who had not allowed a run in his previous two home starts, was the hard-luck loser.

The game was delayed 20 minutes due to the earthquake that rattled the East Coast. Officials checked the structural soundness of Nationals Park before allowing the game to start.

Arizona right fielder Justin Upton left the game after being hit on the left elbow by a Zimmermann fastball.
