Diamondbacks 8, Nationals 1
Chris Young and rookie Paul Goldschmidt belted two-run homers and Wade Miley tossed six scoreless innings to secure his first career victory as the Arizona Diamondbacks posted an 8-1 road triumph over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.
Miguel Montero had three hits - including an RBI double - and Justin Upton scored three times for Arizona, which allowed just three runs en route to winning the last three contests of the four-game series.
The National League West-leading Diamondbacks now own a three-game lead over the San Francisco Giants, who dropped a 3-1 decision to the Houston Astros on Thursday.
Young deposited an offering from John Lannan (8-10) into the left field stands in the sixth inning for his 18th homer of the season - and second since July 3.
Goldschmidt capped a three-run eighth inning with his fifth homer since joining the Diamondbacks on Aug. 1.
Making his second career start, Miley (1-1) scattered five hits and struck out four.
Lannan suffered his third straight loss after permitting just two runs on seven hits in six innings.
