Reds 3, Rockies 2
Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Edgar Renteria each hit solo homers as the host Cincinnati Reds welcomed Colorado Rockies starter Kevin Millwood back to the major leagues with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday.
Mike Leake (10-7) pitched 7 1/3 solid innings and Francisco Cordero earned his 21st save for the Reds, who won for only the third time in nine August games.
Shorthanded in the rotation after Juan Nicasio underwent neck surgery over the weekend, the Rockies picked up the veteran righthander Millwood.
After toiling in Triple A for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees for the first four months of the 2011 campaign, Millwood looked strong at times Wednesday. The 36-year-old allowed six hits and struck out six in seven innings.
Renteria struck first in the fourth and Bruce followed two batters later with his 23rd when he took a hanging breaking ball out to right.
Colorado tied it 2-2 on Troy Tulowitzki's solo homer - his 23rd of the season - in the sixth before Votto drove a 3-2 Millwood pitch out to the opposite field in the bottom half.
