Reds 2, Dodgers 1

Bronson Arroyo put together his best outing in nearly a month and Scott Rolen busted out of a slump with two RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds edged the Los Angeles Dodgers, 2-1, on Friday.

Drew Stubbs recorded two hits and scored a run for the Reds, who have won back-to-back games for the first time since May 16-17.

Arroyo (4-5) entered Friday’s outing having allowed a total of 14 earned runs and 19 hits in 5 2/3 innings over his last two starts. He looked like a different pitcher against the Dodgers, surrendering just one run on five hits in six frames to earn his first win since April 25.

Hiroki Kuroda (5-6) nearly matched Arroyo but ran into trouble in the fifth when he loaded the bases on a single and a pair of walks. Rolen came up and laced a 2-1 fastball into left-center field for a two-run single.

Rolen, who entered the game in a 2-for-17 slump, finished with a pair of hits.

Two relievers bridged the gap to Francisco Cordero, who worked a perfect ninth inning for his 11th save of the season.
