Diamondbacks 10, Reds 8
Stephen Drew went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Chris Young hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks came from behind twice to defeat the visiting Cincinnati Reds 10-8 on Sunday.
Ryan Roberts added a three-run homer and Willie Bloomquist had three hits for the Diamondbacks.
Holding a 7-6 lead and having already used Aroldis Chapman for an inning, Reds manager Dusty Baker turned to Nick Masset in the eighth.
It looked like Masset (0-2) would escape the inning without any damage when Justin Upton popped out for the second out with two runners on, but Drew delivered an RBI single to shallow right, knotting it at 7-7. Young followed by driving a 3-2 pitch into the stands in right to give Arizona a 10-7 lead.
J.J. Putz allowed a run in the ninth but struck out Juan Francisco and Jay Bruce with the tying run on first to earn his third save.
Cincinnati jumped on Joe Saunders with three runs and chased him after three innings, taking a 5-1 lead
Arizona got a run back on the third and took the lead in the fifth, rallying for five runs off Mike Leake highlighted by Roberts’ three-run shot.
The Reds regained the lead at 7-6 on Jonny Gomes’ two-run homer in the seventh off Aaron Heilman (1-0).
