Diamondbacks 3, Reds 1

Ian Kennedy struggled into the sixth inning but managed to outduel Bronson Arroyo and keep the Cincinnati Reds at bay as the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks grabbed a 3-1 victory on Wednesday.

Justin Upton and Ryan Roberts drove in runs, and Kennedy added an RBI groundout for the Diamondbacks, who moved back to .500 at 8-8.

The Reds have lost six of seven to fall back to .500 at 9-9 after beginning the season 5-0.

Arizona pushed one across against Arroyo in the first on Upton’s sacrifice fly and added another in the second when Kennedy’s groundout scored Stephen Drew.

Arroyo (2-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out eight.

Kennedy (2-1) held Cincinnati off the board until the sixth, when Joey Votto doubled in a run to chase the righthander. He threw 103 pitches and allowed four hits, two walks and struck out three.

Three relievers bridged the gap to J.J. Putz, who got the final two outs for his fifth save.
