Mariners 4, Padres 1
Erik Bedard continued his dominance during interleague play with eight scoreless innings to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 4-1 victory over the host San Diego Padres on Friday.
Bedard (2-4), who was making his first start in 12 days, improved to 8-1 in 16 career interleague starts. He allowed three singles, two walks and struck out nine.
Carlos Peguero’s RBI triple highlighted the Mariners’ two-run second inning against Padres starter Mat Latos (1-6), who gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings.
Peguero also robbed Jorge Cantu of a two-run homer in the seventh with a catch above the left field wall and doubled up Ryan Ludwick at first base.
Miguel Olivo added to Seattle’s lead with a solo home run in the sixth.
Seattle’s starting pitchers have gone at least seven innings in each of their last seven outings.
