A's 5, Rangers 4

Hideki Matsui led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a solo homer as the Oakland Athletics rallied for a 5-4 home victory over the Texas Rangers on Monday.

Josh Willingham belted a solo homer in the eighth to tie the game at 4-4, and Kurt Suzuki also went deep for Oakland, which took three of four from its American League West rival.

Grant Balfour (2-1) worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th inning to pick up the win. The 33-year-old Australian did not surrender a hit, but walked three and struck out two.

Darren Oliver (1-3) came on in relief of Cody Eppley and promptly served up Matsui's third home run of the season.

Michael Young belted a two-run double in the third inning and a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fifth. He has now driven in nine in his last five contests for Texas.

Julio Borbon scored twice and Elvis Andrus crossed the plate on Adrian Beltre's sacrifice fly in the fifth for his 11th run in 13 games. Andrus also singled to shallow right in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
