Rangers 8, Athletics 5
Mike Napoli had three hits, including his third career grand slam which highlighted a five-run first inning, and the host Texas Rangers held on for an 8-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
Ian Kinsler and Adrian Beltre belted solo homers in the second for the Rangers, who have won five straight games. Napoli added a pair of doubles in the hottest game ever played in Rangers Ballpark at Arlington (105 degrees).
C.J. Wilson (9-3) had his streak of six games without allowing a homer snapped when Scott Sizemore connected in the second, but the lefthander won his fifth straight decision. Wilson allowed five hits and four runs in seven innings, and struck out eight.
Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez (8-6) gave up a season-high seven runs - only three earned because of a big error by shortstop Adam Rosales in the first - over four innings. Gonzalez had allowed four runs in his previous four starts and had not lost since June 11.
There was a moment of silence before the game for Shannon Stone, the fan who fell 20 feet from the left-field seats during Thursday's game, and later died.
