Indians 5, Twins 2 (Game 1)

Asdrubal Cabrera belted a three-run homer and David Huff tossed seven scoreless innings in his season debut as the visiting Cleveland Indians took the opener of a day-night doubleheader with a 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday.

Ezequiel Carrera, who was starting in center field for the injured Grady Sizemore, added an RBI single as the Indians snapped a two-game slide and maintained their grip on first place in the American League Central. The Indians completed a sweep with a 6-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Huff (1-0), who went 2-11 with a 6.21 ERA for the Indians in 2010, was recalled for the spot start. The 26-year-old lefthander yielded five hits, struck out five and needed only 88 pitches to make it through seven frames.

Anthony Swarzak (2-3) was forced into duty for Minnesota when scheduled starter Scott Baker was placed on the disabled list with elbow problems. He ran into trouble in the third. Carrera got the rally started with his single and Michael Brantley reached in front of Cabrera, who belted his 17th homer of the season.

Michael Cuddyer belted a two-run homer in the ninth inning for Minnesota.

The game was being made up from a rainout on April 22. In honor of that unplayed Earth Day contest, the teams wore green hats on Monday afternoon.
