Indians 7, Mariners 5 (1st)

Shin-Soo Choo belted a three-run homer off Brandon League in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Cleveland Indians ended their four-game losing streak Tuesday afternoon with a 7-5 victory over the visiting Seattle Mariners in the opener of their day-night doubleheader.

After Trayvon Robinson's two-run double in the top of the ninth gave Seattle a 5-4 edge, League (1-5) failed to record an out in the bottom half. Ezequiel Carrera led off with a double and Asdrubal Cabrera reached on a fielder's choice before Choo deposited League's first offering over the wall in left for his seventh home run.

While the game was not interrupted, shock waves from an earthquake in Virginia were felt in the top of the fourth inning at Progressive Field as the press box slightly swayed for almost 30 seconds. No structural damage was reported.

Kosuke Fukudome recorded three hits and an RBI while scoring twice for Cleveland, which began the day 5 1/2 games behind Detroit in the American League Central.

Chris Perez (3-6) notched the win despite blowing his fourth save opportunity this season. Justin Masterson came within two outs of his second complete game of the year but gave way to Perez after yielding back-to-back singles.

Franklin Gutierrez and Miguel Olivo each had two hits and an RBI for Seattle, which has lost six of seven overall and 21 of 25 on the road.
