Marlins 6, Reds 5 (1st)
Greg Dobbs' two-run double in the eighth inning lifted the host Florida Marlins past the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 Wednesday in the opener of a doubleheader.
Dobbs' heroics overshadowed a triumphant return from Logan Morrison, who had two hits - including a long homer - in his first game since being recalled from the minors. Jose Lopez also homered while Omar Infante added a run-scoring single in the pivotal three-run eighth inning.
Cincinnati star Joey Votto had a two-run homer in the third inning while Todd Frazier added a two-run shot in the ninth to make things interesting in the matinee affair, which was rescheduled after hurricane warnings prompted the teams to move the contest up a day.
Royce Webb (2-4) picked up the victory despite recording just one out. Steve Cishek retired both Reds batters he faced in the ninth to earn his second save.
Jose Arredondo (3-4) took the loss after allowing a pair of Marlins to reach base in the fateful eighth.
Morrison, the subject of a stunning demotion to Triple-A earlier in the month, lofted a pitch from Reds starter Homer Bailey over the right-field wall in the fourth inning to draw the Marlins to within a run. Lopez added a two-run shot to put Florida ahead later in the inning.
Florida starter Javier Vazquez had his sixth straight quality start, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out a season-high 11 over seven frames.
Bailey was equally strong, charged with three runs on five hits during his seven-inning stint.
