Phillies 2, Marlins 1 (10, Game 2)
After Cliff Lee came within one strike but missed out on his seventh shutout of the season, Ryan Howard drove in Michael Martinez with an RBI double in the 10th inning to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 2-1 triumph over the visiting Florida Marlins on Thursday night.
The victory gave the Phillies a sweep of the doubleheader, following a 3-1 win Thursday afternoon, as they moved closer to their fifth consecutive National League East title.
Philadelphia (97-51) reduced its magic number to two for the division title and is five wins away from a single-season franchise record.
Lee scattered five hits, struck out 12 and had the Marlins down to their last strike in the ninth, but Jose Lopez spoiled the party with his eighth homer of the season.
After coming in as a defensive replacement in the top of the 10th, Howard doubled to deep center off Burke Badenhop (2-2) to plate the speedy Martinez from first.
John Mayberry Jr. led off the sixth inning with his 14th homer, and Chase Utley went 1-for-4 in his first start since sustaining a concussion last week.
Michael Schwimer (1-0) struck out two in one scoreless inning to pick up the win.
The doubleheader, which is the second of the season pitting these two division rivals, was scheduled after Hurricane Irene made her presence felt in late August.
