Rookie Julio Teheran collected his first major league victory as the Atlanta Braves strengthened their hold on the race for the wild card by completing a doubleheader sweep with a 5-1 triumph over the New York Mets on Thursday.
David Ross homered and joined Chipper Jones in driving in a pair of runs for Atlanta, which recorded a 6-5 victory in the first game of the doubleheader. The Braves moved 7 1/2 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for the final postseason spot.
Making his third career start, the 20-year-old Teheran (1-1) allowed one run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
After belting a grand slam in the opener of the doubleheader, Jason Bay plated Jose Reyes with a sacrifice fly in the first inning for New York.
Rookie Dillon Gee (12-6) fell for the third time in five outings after permitting three runs on four hits in six innings to take the loss.
