Mets 6, Phillies 3 (Game 2)

Josh Thole drove in a pair of runs, and Dillon Gee out-dueled the Philadelphia Phillies' bullpen as the host New York Mets completed a doubleheader sweep with a 6-3 win in the nightcap Saturday.

Ruben Tejada and Nick Evans each recorded an RBI for the Mets, who have won three straight.

The Phillies, who have clinched home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, have dropped a season-high eight straight.

Not wanting to juggle a pitching staff it has already lined up for the playoffs, Philadelphia turned to its bullpen for the back end of the twin bill. Joe Blanton threw two scoreless innings to start but David Herndon (1-4) and some unfortunate defense let an early lead slip away in the third.

Hunter Pence’s error in right allowed two runs, and Evans and Thole followed with RBI hits in a five-run frame. Six pitchers worked in the game for the Phillies.

Gee (13-6) made the runs hold up, scattering nine hits and three runs over six innings to snap a four-start winless streak. Two relievers bridged the gap to Manny Acosta, who pitched the ninth for his fourth save.
