Orioles 6, White Sox 0

Chris Tillman allowed one hit in seven dominant innings and Nick Markakis drove in three as host Baltimore continued to roll.

Tillman (7-2) had his scheduled start on Sunday rained out but did not appear rusty, striking out five and issuing four walks. The 24-year old right-hander did not allow a hit until Dayan Viciedo’s single leading off the fifth and retired the last nine batters he faced.

Lew Ford and Adam Jones each added solo home runs for the Orioles, who have won four straight and seven of nine to grab a share of the wild card lead in the American League.

Cy Young Award candidate Chris Sale (15-5) could not match his counterpart and was lifted after four innings, having surrendered four runs on six hits while walking three and striking out five.

Sale struck out the first two batters in the second inning before running into trouble. Nate McLouth singled and Sale walked the next two batters in front of Markakis, who gave Tillman all the support he would need with a bases-clearing double into the right-center field gap.

Ford, who had not homered since 2007 when he went deep in the series opener on Monday, made it homers in back-to-back games for the first time since 2005 in the third when he ripped a line drive into the third row in left.

The White Sox, who entered the day with a two-game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central, have lost two straight following a six-game winning streak.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago placed RHP Gavin Floyd (elbow) on the 15-day DL and recalled RHP Dylan Axelrod, who will make the start on Wednesday. … The Orioles, who added one veteran LHP in Joe Saunders over the weekend, are reportedly close to grabbing one more. The team is expected to close a deal for Randy Wolf soon. Wolf, who is 3-10 with a 5.69 ERA with the Milwaukee Brewers this season, could be used out of the Baltimore bullpen. … Jones’ home run in the sixth was his 25th of the season, matching a career high set in 2011.
