Red Sox 6, Mariners 1

Jon Lester earned the complete-game victory and Daniel Nava belted a two-run homer as host Boston won its fourth straight game.

Lester (2-3) allowed eight hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter for his second complete game of the season. Lester has allowed only five runs in his last four starts.

Back-to-back doubles by David Ortiz and Adrian Gonzalez, after a walk by Dustin Pedroia, gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Nava hit a two-run blast after a Cody Ross single in the fourth. It was Nava’s first homer since his first career at-bat on June 12, 2010.

One out later, Kelly Shoppach hit his first homer in a Red Sox uniform for a 5-0 lead.

Ross and Shoppach each had two hits.

Jesus Montero and Justin Smoak singled to open the seventh for Seattle, but Kyle Seager lined into a double play and Mike Saunders popped out to short to end the threat.

Mariners starter Jason Vargas (4-3) allowed seven hits and five runs over six innings. Vargas had gone 3-1 and allowed only nine runs over his previous five starts.
