Red Sox 5, Mariners 0

Aaron Cook pitched a two-hitter and visiting Boston clubbed four homers, including three solo shots in the fifth inning.

Rookie Will Middlebrooks, Cody Ross and Daniel Nava went deep before Jarrod Saltalamacchia delivered a two-run shot in the sixth inning as Boston won for the 12th time in its last 16 games.

Cook (2-1) won his second straight start since taking Clay Buchholz’s spot in the rotation. He allowed only an infield hit to Ichiro Suzuki on a close play at first to lead off the fourth inning and a leadoff single to John Jaso in the eighth.

It was Cook’s 12th career complete game and first since 2010. He struck out two and threw 81 pitches, the lowest total for a complete game in the majors this season.

Cook got out of the eighth inning when second Dustin Pedroia made a diving stop of Dustin Ackley’s grounder and flipped the ball out of his glove to shortstop Mike Aviles, who completed the double play.

Seattle’s Hector Noesi (2-10) became baseball’s first 10-game loser and is winless in his last 10 starts (0-7). He allowed five runs and seven hits in five-plus innings.

Middlebrooks and Ross went back-to-back to lead off the fifth inning and Nava’s homer came with two outs. Ross’ shot went into the second deck in left field.
