Yankees 4, Nationals 1
Ivan Nova continued his string of strong starts with 7 2/3 solid innings and Curtis Granderson hit his 21st home run as visiting New York completed a three-game sweep at Washington.
Robinson Cano added a solo homer and Mark Teixeira drove in a run and scored one for the Yankees, who have won nine straight and are 10-2 in interleague play.
The Nationals, who entered the series on a six-game win streak, were swept at home for the first time since last July.
Nova (9-2) was charged with one run - a solo homer by Adam LaRoche - and seven hits while walking one and striking out four. He has won five straight starts and has allowed two runs in 22 2/3 innings this month.
Rafael Soriano worked the ninth for his 13th save.
Edwin Jackson (3-4) got the start for Washington and ran into trouble immediately, allowing back-to-back hits to start the game. The right-hander managed to limit the damage to Teixeira’s sacrifice fly in the frame and cruised through the next three innings before Granderson led off the fifth.
Jackson tried to sneak a changeup past on a 1-1 count and Granderson belted it into the Nationals bullpen.
Cano’s 12th blast came off Tom Gorzelanny in the seventh, and the Yankees added another run on a passed ball.
