Billy Butler slammed the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning and host Kansas City completed a three-game sweep of Tampa Bay.
Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar also swatted solo homers for the Royals, who swept the Rays in a three-game set for the first time since May 2001.
Butler drilled his 15th homer off Burke Badenhop (1-2), who had relieved Rays starter Matt Moore with one out in the eighth inning.
Yuniesky Betancourt added a two-run single for Kansas City, which squandered a 4-0 lead before sending Tampa Bay to its sixth loss in eight games.
Aaron Crow (1-1) went two-thirds of an inning for the victory and closer Jonathan Broxton worked around a one-out walk ninth for his 19th save.
Ben Zobrist had three hits and three RBIs, including a tying two-run triple in the top of the eighth before he was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a groundout.
Royals left-hander Everett Teaford, recalled from Triple-A Omaha earlier in the day, blanked the Rays on three hits through five innings but was pulled after the first two batters reached in the sixth.
Moore lasted 7 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on a career-high 10 hits in the 100-degree heat.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Escobar went 3-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to six games and give him seven multi-hit games in his last 11. His homer was his first since April 18. ... Rays DH Luke Scott is expected to be activated for Thursday's game against Detroit. Closer Kyle Farnsworth will make a second straight rehab appearance Thursday and could rejoin the team over the weekend. ... Kansas City turned four double plays. ...
