Braves 8, Mets 7

Jason Heyward singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth as host Atlanta won its sixth game in a row.

Heyward’s single capped a rally from two runs down in the eighth, as the Braves won a back-and-forth contest at Turner Field.

Anthony Varvaro (1-0) got the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 27th save.

Down 7-5 entering the eighth, the Braves got three consecutive run-scoring singles with two outs. Michael Bourn singled home Brian McCann. Martin Prado tied the game with a single to score Dan Uggla. Heyward then lined a single to left off Bobby Parnell (2-2) to bring home Bourn, giving the Braves an 8-7 advantage.

The Mets struck for three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Pinch-hitter Justin Turner singled home Josh Thole to bring New York within 5-4. Ruben Tejada tied the game with a run-scoring single, and Jordany Valdespin’s single scored Turner to put the Mets ahead 6-5.

Atlanta surged to a 3-1 lead in the second. Eric Hinske doubled home Freddie Freeman and McCann to put the Braves ahead 2-1. Bourn singled home Uggla to push the lead to 3-1, but Hinske was thrown out at home.

New York's Ike Davis hit a two-run homer, his 13th homer of the season. Freeman had a two-run double for Atlanta.

GAME NOTEBOOK: New York manager Terry Collins was ejected in the fifth inning for arguing a call. … Atlanta traded for Cincinnati SS Paul Janish on Saturday, dealing RHP Todd Redmond. With SS Andrelton Simmons and SS Jack Wilson out with pinkie finger injuries, the Braves needed depth at shortstop. … Freeman finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
