Mets 6, Padres 1

Mets 6, Padres 1:
Dillon Gee pitched seven strong innings, Lucas Duda hit a home run and Ike Davis drove in two runs to help host New York even the four-game series at a game apiece.

Duda tied the game at 1 with a solo shot in the second. Davis, who began to bust out of a slump with a two-run single in Thursday's series opener, lined a two-run single up the middle in the Mets' three-run fifth.

A day after posting season highs in runs and hits, the Padres were back to being punchless at the plate. They managed only four hits and scored their only run when Jesus Guzman's flyout to the left-field wall allowed Will Venable to tag and score before the Mets doubled Yonder Alonso off first.

Gee (4-3) allowed one run on four hits. He struck out nine and pitched around three walks in winning his second straight start.

Padres starter Anthony Bass (2-5) allowed six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego's Chase Headley went 0-for-3 to snap a five-game hitting streak. … The Mets moved Mike Baxter into the leadoff spot, and he went 1-for-4 to move his average to .352.
