Nationals 4, Phillies 3 (11)
Nationals 4, Phillies 3 (11): Wilson Ramos drove in the winning run with a walk-off single in the 11th inning and Jesus Flores drove in two runs as host Washington came from behind to shock Philadelphia.
Michael Schwimer (0-1) got two quick outs in the 11th before allowing a single to Steve Lombardozzi and walking Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth to load the bases. Ramos followed and took a 1-2 pitch up the middle to end the game.
Ryan Perry (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win.
The Phillies carried a 3-2 lead into the eighth, when Chad Qualls coughed up the tying run. Chad Tracy led off with a single and moved up on a sacrifice before Flores followed an intentional walk with an RBI double. Another intentional walk loaded the bases but the Nationals could not sneak in the go-ahead run.
Stephen Strasburg started for Washington and allowed only three hits in six innings but two of them left the yard, leading to all three runs. The 23-year old right-hander struck out four and walked one in absorbing his first loss.
Hunter Pence got to Strasburg in the fourth. Juan Pierre led off the inning with a single - the first hit of the night off Strasburg - and Pence followed Placido Polanco’s popout by guessing right on a first-pitch curveball and driving it over the wall in left-center for his fourth homer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillies manager Charlie Manuel was ejected in the first inning by home plate umpire Rob Drake for arguing balls and strikes. … Joe West, who was supposed to umpire third base, was out due to illness, leaving only three umpires. … Phenom Harper went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts but worked three walks, including battling back from an 0-2 count in the 11th.
