Phillies 4, Nationals 1
Cole Hamels won his seventh in a row by striking out eight in as many scoreless innings and Shane Victorino belted a solo homer as host Philadelphia snapped a four-game losing skid.
Although Hamels (7-1) was under the spotlight after he publicly admitted that he intentionally threw at rookie Bryce Harper earlier in the month, the left-hander did not show any nervousness.
Hamels did not allow a hit until Danny Espinosa doubled down the left-field line with one out in the sixth. Harper followed with a single but right fielder Hunter Pence threw a strike to catcher Carlos Ruiz, who tagged Espinosa to preserve the shutout.
Hamels scattered four hits to improve to 12-4 in his career versus the Nationals. Jonathan Papelbon yielded a solo homer to Adam LaRoche in the ninth before ending the threat.
Mike Fontenot opened the scoring in the second inning after his RBI single to right field fell just in front of Harper. Victorino added an RBI double in the third off Edwin Jackson (1-2) and Fontenot scored on a suicide squeeze from Juan Pierre in the seventh.
Victorino capped the Phillies' scoring with his sixth homer of the season in the eighth inning.
The Nationals fell to their NL East rivals for just the fourth time in their last 17 meetings.
