Phillies 5, Cardinals 3 (10)

Phillies 5, Cardinals 3:
Hunter Pence's opposite-field two-run homer in the 10th inning lifted visiting Philadelphia to its third straight win.

Juan Pierre led off with a single against Jason Motte (3-2) before Pence drove an outside fastball for his 11th homer. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect 10th for his 14th save.

The Phillies have won the first two games of this four-game series to move over .500.

Cliff Lee, making his fourth start since coming off the disabled list from a strained oblique, helped his cause by leading off the seventh with a single. Juan Pierre doubled him home to make it 3-3.

Jimmy Rollins returned from paternity leave and laced an RBI single to put the Phillies on top 1-0 in the second, then scored on first baseman Matt Adams’ error. Adams is starting in place of Lance Berkman, who is expected to miss 8-to-10 weeks following knee surgery.

Adams redeemed himself by doubling in the bottom half and scoring on Shane Robinson’s double. Rafael Furcal’s third homer, a liner just barely over the fence in left, tied it 2-2 in the third.

When center fielder Shane Victorino lost David Freese’s fly ball in the lights in the fourth, Freese ended up with a triple. Yadier Molina singled to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

Kyle Lohse went 6 2/3 innings for St. Louis, allowing three runs on six hits.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran, who has a tender right knee, was originally not in Friday's lineup. But after assuring manager Mike Matheny, Beltran started and went 0-for-5. ... St. Louis fell to 12-10 at home.
