Rookie sensation Bryce Harper delivered a go-ahead RBI double and starter Ross Detwiler tossed 6 1/3 solid innings as host Washington won its fourth straight series at home.
The Nationals, after losing five in a row have won back-to-back outings and improved to 10-3 at home. They have won seven of their first eight series of the season.
Harper gave Washington a 2-1 lead with a RBI double to left in the bottom of the sixth. After going 0-for-3 in the series opener, Harper was 4-for-7 with three doubles and two RBIs in the last two games.
Jayson Werth led off the bottom of the second with a double and came around to score on Rick Ankiel’s RBI groundout to put the Nationals on the board.
Detwiler (3-1) pitched 6 1/3 solid innings, giving up only one run on three hits while striking out two and walking three batters. He trimmed his season ERA to 1.59.
The Nationals bullpen pitched 2 2/3 innings of spotless relief with Henry Rodriguez picking up his sixth save.
A one-out walk in the top of the sixth came back to bite Detwiler, who allowed the tying run to score on a RBI double to deep right by Aaron Hill.
Arizona ace Ian Kennedy (3-1) allowed just two runs on four hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking one batter.
