White Sox 4, Athletics 3

Jordan Danks made his first major-league home run count, delivering a walk-off blow in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift host Chicago to a comeback victory over Oakland.

Danks stepped up to the plate with two out and nobody on against Pat Neshek (1-1) and drilled the first pitch into the right-field seats. The White Sox, who entered the night with a one-game lead over Detroit in the American League Central, scored all four of their runs on solo homers.

Brett Myers (1-1), the fifth Chicago pitcher, got the victory after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth.

Oakland jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the White Sox crept back with blasts by A.J. Pierzynski in the second inning, Alexei Ramirez in the fourth and Dayan Viciedo leading off the seventh.

Brandon Moss hit a two-run homer in the top of the second for the Athletics, who got on the board in the first inning with a run-scoring groundout by Josh Reddick.

Chicago starter Gavin Floyd gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings, striking out five and walking three. Oakland’s Brandon McCarthy worked six-plus innings, yielding three runs on six hits.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The White Sox placed 1B Paul Konerko on the 7-day concussion disabled list. ... The loss was just Oakland’s 10th in 33 games since July 1. ... The Athletics will start Travis Blackley on Saturday to give the remainder of their rotation an extra day of rest.
