John Jaso hit a three-run homer and had four RBIs and Blake Beavan pitched 6 2/3 solid innings to win his third straight start as host Seattle continued its mastery of Kansas City.
Mike Carp added a solo homer for the Mariners, who also won Thursday’s series opener and have beaten the Royals in five of the last six meetings this season.
Beavan (6-6) improved to 3-0 lifetime against the Royals. He allowed one run, four hits and struck out six.
Jeremy Guthrie (0-2) lost his second straight start with the Royals since he was acquired from the Colorado Rockies on July 20. He allowed six runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings to fall to 2-7 against Seattle.
Billy Butler had two hits and scored on Salvador Perez's sacrifice fly for the Royals, who are 6-19 in their last 25 games and 3-12 in their last 15 on the road.
After Michael Saunders and Jesus Montero singled with one out in the first inning, Jaso delivered a towering shot over the right-center field wall.
Dustin Ackley’s RBI double and Jaso’s sacrifice fly in the second inning made it 5-1 before Carp’s blast put Seattle on top 6-1 in the sixth.
